Tshani Foundation graduates together at a celebration

When I arrived here in 1997, nobody could see a future for me. I built this Foundation so that every woman who comes after me sees one from day one.

Nicole Tshani, Founder
0+ sustainable alumni businesses across Uganda today.
0 full-time positions created for other women.
0 districts of core operation: Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja, Mukono.
0 refugee settlements: Nakivale, Kyaka II, Adjumani.

Origin of the model

The programme is Nicole's own life, made teachable.

Nicole's path from street braider to salon owner took her nearly twenty years, alone. She learned the craft as a child, rebuilt herself in Kampala through trial and error, lost money on bad suppliers, survived hostile landlords and difficult clients, and slowly compounded a reputation.

When we train a woman today we compress that twenty-year path into twelve months. She arrives with nothing and leaves with a craft, a business plan, a starter kit, a peer network and a member-owned fund she holds a share of. The outcome is not luck. It is the life of our founder, turned into a curriculum.
